Hide words in a sentence. Each hidden word becomes its own card. Blank “comí” in a Spanish sentence and the card asks for it with an empty box; the answer shows the whole sentence with the word highlighted.
A word learned alone on a flashcard is easy to memorize and easy to forget, because you never meet it alone. Cloze cards keep the sentence. You hide the word you want to learn, the rest of the sentence gives the context, and you answer from memory in the same kind of place you will meet the word again.
